1) Quite often here at PUQS.com I’ll give you specific bets within a race. For instance, I might simply say: “Exacta: 4/1-5-6″. Now, you can either do that exact bet or play around with it. You may also try doing an Exacta: 1-5-6/4 or perhaps a Trifecta Box: 1-4-5-6. Experienced bettors know that your key horses don’t always come in exactly how you want and therefore it is important to use your own judgment along with mine to figure out what order you want. One more thing to remember is this: I love to play trifectas. That’s pretty much the only thing I bet. So if you’re not into that and you want to stick with exactas, you can still easily go off of what I have posted for trifectas and make a winning exacta.

2) It’s incredibly hard to post picks for a race without being right there at the track the next day to see if there is major value elsewhere as far as the odds go. For example, I may like a horse to win a race and think he has a 75% chance of winning. Well, let’s say that same horse goes off as the 7/2 favorite for the day. At the same time as that, let’s say another horse in the same race is someone who I think has a 65% chance of winning and he’s going off at 20-1 for the day. Obviously you can see that I’m more than likely going out on a small limb and taking the 65% chance horse just for good value alone! I hope that made sense and further drove home the fact to really compare my picks with your own, especially when you’re right there viewing the tote board.

3) Sometimes I’ll specifically list one horse and nothing else in a race. In this scenario, you can surely feel confident, along with myself, that I think this horse will finish within the Top 3. In my opinion, these are typically good WP (Win/Place) bets. However, one of my golden rules is to always “reward” yourself for betting to win. That’s why I would do a $3 win bet and a $2 place bet… but a W/P is about the same and slightly cheaper.

4) If you’re comparing results to what I have posted… please keep in mind scratches and even possibly rider mishaps! It’s funny how many times a horse I like will get scratched and therefore my picks will look completely obsolete once visitors check results to what I had posted. I’m just trying to save myself from looking like a fool, so please be aware.

5) My long shot bets… are…. well… just that. Long shots! Do they usually come in when I say they might? Sometimes! But more often than not, a horse is a long shot for a reason. In this day and age it’s truly hard to find big value plays that you can be sure about. You’re betting against the public and while there are plenty of suckers out there (and I do mean plenty), there’s also the semi-small fracion of “well-informed” people… so like I said, it’s difficult to find those big value plays on one horse. Don’t worry though, there’s tons of money to be made at the track besides gambling on long shots.

6) Sometimes I’m dead wrong! I don’t know anyone out there that hits every race. In fact, no one does. Sure, some people may win HUGE in one race, or even do consistently well for an entire week/month. And that’s how I can be as well. At the same time, just like the people that do consistently well, there are always those dreadful times of running cold. I may do poorly with my picks for an entire week and then BAM… the next update I’ll give you plenty of winners. Either way, I would hope that people will stick with me and realize that not even the most professional handicappers do the right thing. Just look through your Daily Racing Form sometime and see how often the handicappers there get selections wrong. It happens to the best of us! If you want a better example of wrong predictions, just watch your local station’s weather forecast.

7) Keep in mind that this is a completely FREE blog! While this is obviously an amazingly good thing, I’m also somewhat worried that people are so use to having to pay $$$$$ for “professional” picks that they might discard this blog as being ignorant since I’m not making any money off of you. But those people couldn’t be more wrong. You aren’t going to go anywhere else on the net and find a site that gives you full card selections like I do. Everyone else is out to make a quick buck and charge you $20-$100 per track… but I’m here to give you the real deal… for free. Seriously, the stuff I post here is what you can find me doing the very next day at the track. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean it’s not valuable. Put trust in me and trust in yourself and compare both of our picks and we’ll be just fine. Don’t waste your money elsewhere.

I love reading comments. I love hearing what people think, whether they’re with me or completely against. I’m always willing to learn and listen, so feel free to post whenever you feel necessary!
